Power In Your Presence: Taming Feelings Of Insecurity And Imposter Syndrome
Imposter syndrome can inhibit the desire for taking advantage of career opportunities, pursuing career advancement, or seeking entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship opportunities. Imposter syndrome is pervasive across all professions, genders and ages – affecting individuals from their time in school, throughout their career, and even up to retirement. In this session, attendees will hear from a diverse panel which includes an expert active in researching imposter syndrome, a dietetic intern, and dietetic professionals with years of experience managing and mentoring individuals exhibiting signs of imposter syndrome. Attendees will be engaged through case study examples and other interactive activities to deconstruct the history of imposter syndrome, explore why dietitians experience imposter syndrome, review common thoughts and feelings associated with imposter syndrome and specify what dietitians can do to mitigate the negative effects of imposter syndrome. The panel will conclude with an interactive discussion that will equip each attendee with specific steps for counteracting imposter syndrome to advance the profession of dietetics on an individual and systemic level.
