Important FNCE® 2020 Update

To all Academy members:

As October nears and the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to create worldwide challenges unlike any that we or our nutrition and dietetics predecessors have experienced, the Academy’s Board of Directors determined on Friday, June 19, that the 2020 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo™, scheduled for October 17 to 20 in Indianapolis, Ind., will transition to a virtual event experience, to be held on the same dates.

I know you will agree with me that, especially as an organization of health professionals, we must respect above all else the safety of our members, presenters, guests and employees of the Academy and the convention center and hotels that would house FNCE® attendees.

The exciting news is that we have been working behind the scenes for months, preparing for various scenarios that will continue to ensure that everything FNCE® offers will be brought to you, wherever you are. In the coming weeks, visit eatrightFNCE.org for Virtual FNCE® 2020 updates.

We will all miss the special experience of gathering together, in person, as an Academy, to learn, listen and celebrate the latest advances in the work of our global food and nutrition community. I’m optimistic and hopeful that we will be able to do so relatively soon, and I look forward to seeing each one of you at FNCE® 2021 in New Orleans, La.

I’m reminded of words written a century ago by one of my predecessors, our second president, Mary de Garmo Bryan. In a 1920 Christmas letter to members of what was then the American Dietetic Association, she said:

With all of us working together, conscious of the obligations we bear to each other and to our profession, we can make this a year of constructive work toward the realities of the possibilities of the ADA.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work through the details of this online event. I’m confident that our shared virtual 2020 FNCE® experience will be innovative and cutting edge and one you won’t want to miss. Our challenges may be many, but our possibilities are unlimited.

Yours in health and safety for all,

Linda T. Farr, RDN, CSOWM, LD, FAND
Academy President, 2020-2021
